Our story

Simple, homemade and healthy food forms an integral part of the life of our school community . . .

Ask past students of the Waldorf School Kindergarten about ‘kindy buns’ and they will talk with rapture of the freshly cooked and still warm, doughy homemade buns!

Our small school is set on 16 acres of organically tended and farmed land tucked within the city limits.  The primary school children share the site with enough younger ones to fill three kindergartens, a nursery group, a parent and child group, as well as a range of animals whom they care for and nurture, including chickens, cows and kune kune pigs.

Children are actively involved in the full cycle of food production – growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing healthy foods (vegetable soup, home made bread and homemade pizza in the pizza oven located up at the farm); and composting.

Opening our hearts and kitchens

The tradition of healthy and homemade food has long nurtured the children and families within our school community.  Recently we felt inspired to share some of these recipes.

Parents and teachers from our school have enthusiastically and generously opened their hearts and kitchens to gift, trial and prepare their treasured recipes … so that we can share them with you, our wider community.

Our Sponsors

Please support our Supporters!

Community is important to us, so rather than create a book in isolation we have connected with businesses that resonate with us and the theme of homemade and healthy food.

We approached these businesses for their sense of community, their creative or sustainable food or sometimes their creative or sustainable approach.

We hope that you will support our sponsors, as they are a great source of homemade and healthy food, nutritious ingredients and ethical products that nurture our bodies whilst caring for our beautiful planet.
